Alpine 1600 Engine
The next evolution step after the 1296 ccm engine was the 1,6 litre block offered by Renault with the car R16TS. Alpine used this engine as basis for their spectacular 1600 S version and equipped the cylinder head with double Weber 45 DCOE carburators. This engine was used for the successful rallye cars from the beginning of 1971 winning famous rallye classics as well as the World Championship of Rallies. Note that the cross flow head concept is just vice versa than that of the 1300 ccm engine: the exhaust part is on the other hand side.
