| Profile | Gordini moved to France in 1928 and became French citizen one year afterwards. Gordini created some racing cars with SIMCA in post war times. In 1957 he started the relationship with Renault developing the 37PS-engine for the Dauphine. He is father of the legendary Renault Gordini R8 engine as well as a special version of the Renault 12, 17 and 5. In the beginning his engines always wear a red 'G' on the aluminium valve cover. Le Mans has been a favourite event in his life. He created the rare double cam 1300 engine as well as the V8 in later times. The Le Mans winning V6 and the Formula One first turbo-charged engines have their origin in the Gordini factory, too. In 1977 he left his business to Renault but the valve covers still weared the letters Gordini. Amedée Gordini died at the age of 80 in 1979. |
